Not only the logo is important for a company. The packaging is important, too. The Bahlsen biscuit factory noticed this early on. Sometimes, they packed their biscuits in nice tins.

You can recognize a company not only by its logo. A logo is the company’s symbol or the letters of the company’s name. The packaging of the products is important, too. It sometimes helps to sell a product. And you know right away: This is a product from this company.

Hermann Bahlsen from the Bahlsen biscuit factory noticed this early on. Already more than 100 years ago, he sold his biscuits in beautiful biscuit tins. He wanted to combine everyday objects and art.

Hermann Bahlsen asked artists to think of a beautiful design and to make the tins valuable. The company’s name was on the bottom of the tins. This way, you could see the decoration on the lid. The tins looked very good on a coffee table. Today, they are very popular amongst people who collect biscuit tins.

From the year 1950 on, Germany’s economy grew a lot. At that time, it became important again that biscuit tins looked nice. Between 1947 and 1989, the artist Eva Grossberg designed more than 250 tins for Bahlsen. The style of her art is called Bauhaus. In the Bauhaus style, everything should be handy and have simple shapes.

The tins in the exhibition are part of a special collection. It is called Sonnen-Kollektion. This is German and means Sun Collection. The decoration on the tins looks like sun rays.
