This is a lamp.
But it looks like a power plug. The light comes from the two pins.

This item is a luminaire. It is called: Fiche Mâle. It is pronounced like this: Fish Mal. It's French and means: power plug.

The designer Yonel Lebovici created the lamp. It looks like a power plug. But the lamp is 30 centimetres high and twice as long. That is much bigger than a power plug. It is also made of a different material: aluminium. That is a very light metal. Aluminium is used in airplanes, for example.

The 2 pins of this lamp are light rods. This is where the light comes from. With a normal power plug, the pins go into the socket. This is how a power plug gets the power. The Fiche Mâle luminaire gets its power from a cable.

At first, the lamp looks like a very large power plug made of a different material. That is why the visitors might be surprised and find the design funny. Things from everyday life can sometimes have a very different use. Then they are often works of art.
