This hexagonal flower turned in on itself is one element from thirty-three individual sections of a spatial cloud that hangs in Shelf 15 in the X-D-E-P-O-T. Every section consists of willow rods that were brewed in a mixture of iron oxide and walnut shells. This is why the material is almost black. Any number of the elements can be assembled together and they serve as a hanging partition, a vanity screen or as a wall decoration. Combining the individual parts heightens the relief-like effect resulting in a picture full of swirls. Its illumination gives rise to a fascinating play of shadows. In 2019 basketry maker Monika Nickel-Stein won the State Prize for Arts and Crafts in Rhineland-Palatinate for her design.
